HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) – Despite a last-day appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court, the first man convicted in one of the most brutal hate crimes in U.S. history was executed on Wednesday. John William King passed away via lethal injection at 7:08pm.
The family of James Byrd Jr. says that justice was served. We’re told in the hours leading up to John William King’s death he was reading through papers, visited some friends, and for the most part was quite. When asked if he had a final statement he simply said “No”.
